Students enjoy unforgettable ski trip in Italy

Five lucky pupils from Olive AP Academy – Havering embarked on an unforgettable journey to Pila, Italy, for a six-day, five-night ski adventure earlier this month.

The students were selected to go on the trip based on their exemplary behaviour and punctuality, and thanks to full funding from Olive Academies Foundation, they were able to take part in an experience of a lifetime.

Ahead of the trip, a proportion of the term’s outdoor learning timetable was focused on developing ski skills, made possible thanks to a generous grant from St. James's Place Charitable Foundation. Twenty OA pupils took part in dry ski lessons, each accumulating over 12 hours of experience on the slopes, where they learnt new skills and also strengthened their resilience and determination. The lessons also undoubtedly boosted the confidence of those who went on to hit the snow in Italy.

The students, along with three dedicated staff members, Tony Machin (headteacher), Abbie Bayliss (school social worker), and Jamie Rivers (PE teacher/trip lead), immersed themselves in five days of intensive skiing, with five hours of tuition each day under the guidance of experienced ski instructors.

Student feedback has been fantastic too – most certainly a success for everyone involved, and we can’t wait to see what comes next for students at Olive AP Academy – Havering.
