Two students at OA-Havering have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to academy life after being selected as this year's Jack Petchey Achievement Award winners.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award recognises young people who have demonstrated exceptional effort, resilience and commitment, with winners chosen through nominations and votes from staff and fellow students.
Louie received the award in recognition of his positive attitude, determination to succeed and the encouragement and support he consistently shows to both his peers and younger students across the academy.
As part of the award, Louie received a £300 grant to benefit the academy community. Choosing to give something back to his classmates, he used the funding to support Year 11 Enrichment Week, purchasing tickets for a trip to Thorpe Park and a paintballing experience to help create a memorable end to their time at OA-Havering. With the remaining funding, Louie chose to invest in new goal nets for the academy's multi-use games area, ensuring future students will also benefit from the award.
Denis was recognised for his excellent behaviour, kind nature and the respect he consistently shows to both staff and fellow students. Shortly after receiving the award, Denis successfully transitioned back into mainstream education following the fantastic progress he had made during his time with us.
To celebrate his achievement, Denis was invited back to the academy during Enrichment Week to choose and take part in a trip alongside current students. The academy also worked with his mainstream school to support his return for the day, providing an opportunity to celebrate both his award and his successful transition.
The awards highlight the values that underpin life at OA-Havering, recognising students who demonstrate kindness, perseverance and a commitment to supporting others. They also reflect the academy's focus on helping every young person grow in confidence, achieve success and make a positive contribution to their community.
Congratulations to both Louie and Denis on this well-deserved recognition.
